Graham Potter Booed And Chelsea Battered As Brighton Run Riot Against Former Manager

Graham Potter's honeymoon period as Chelsea manager came to an abrupt end on Saturday as his new side got battered by his old Brighton team.

Chelsea had been unbeaten in nine matches since Potter arrived from Brighton in early September.

But the Blues were well beaten at the AMEX Stadium, where Brighton led 3-0 at half-time courtesy of a Leandro Trossard strike and own goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah.

Kai Havertz pulled a goal back for Chelsea early in the second half but Pascal Gross restored Brighton's big lead in stoppage time.

Brighton fans booed their former manager before the game and later taunted him with chants of "Potter, Potter, what's the score?"

Potter was asked after the game about the hostile reception he had received.

The 47-year-old told BBC Sport: "People are entitled to their opinions. I think I did a good job at the club and left it in a good place.

"Once the crowd were so engaged it was a difficult one for us. The scoreline is a painful one."

New Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi said: "The atmosphere was fantastic.

"Our fans were the best player on the pitch and it is very nice to work in Brighton. I am proud for this."

Brighton's win saw them climb to eighth place in the EPL table, just three points behind Chelsea.

This was Brighton's first ever league victory over Chelsea.

Brighton's only other win against Chelsea came in the FA Cup way back in 1933.
