Eddie Howe Calls For Security Improvements After Being Attacked By Fan At Leeds

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe believes that clubs need to "be mindful of security" after a Leeds fan was able to lay hands on him during Saturday's 2-2 draw.

Howe looked shocked after a pitch invader approached him near the away dugout at Elland Road towards the end of the game.

The fan grabbed Howe with both of his hands, said something to him and then shoved the Newcastle boss in the chest before walking away.

It was only at this point that security staff arrived on the scene to remove the man from the stadium.

Speaking after the match, Howe told reporters: "I can't repeat what he said but it makes you think 'what if?' It was personal to me.

"We need to be mindful of security. Nobody should have to feel their personal safety is violated when trying to entertain the country.

"I didn't have time to be fearful, it was over in a flash. But it made me think about things after."

Newcastle came from behind to lead 2-1 at Elland Road thanks to two Callum Wilson penalty kicks after Luke Ayling's early opener for Leeds.

But Rasmus Kristensen rescued a point for Leeds with a deflected strike in the 79th minute.
