Edmonton Elks Add Offensive Lineman Patrick Davis

The Edmonton Elks signed former Montreal Alouettes offensive lineman Patrick Davis.

With the Edmonton Elks shifting the focus to the offensive line, the team added their first lineman of the offseason.

Edmonton announced the addition of Canadian offensive lineman Patrick Davis.

Davis started his college career with the Syracuse Orange, coming off the bench in 25 games over four seasons.

The Montreal Alouettes selected Davis 28th overall in the 2021 CFL Draft, and he played in 24 games over three seasons, including two starts. He played 24 games during his career, starting in two of them. The Alouettes released him in October.

It's been a busy offseason for the Elks, who are evaluating the team's ownership structure. The Elks are currently owned by the community, but the potential move to private ownership stems from financial losses, reportedly $12.6 million since 2019.

Another change that Edmonton team president Rick LeLacheur would like to see is a new stadium for the Elks. Commonwealth Stadium has been in use since 1978.

“We need some very high investment into this stadium if this stadium is going to go forward as a CFL stadium,” LeLacheur said. “It’s been the love of the CFL for a lot of years, it’s had a lot of events here, but it’s not the stadium of the future that we have in Regina and Winnipeg and Hamilton and Ottawa.

“If there was an unlimited amount of dollars, I’d build a new stadium. That’s what I’d do, but I don’t have that kind of dollars.”

Edmonton has signed seven other players this offseason so far. They finished the season tied for a league-worst 4-14 overall record.
