Jose Mourinho Throws Medal Into Crowd After Losing Europa League Final With Roma
Roma manager Jose Mourinho did not want to keep his silver medal after his team lost Wednesday's UEFA Europa League final to Sevilla.
Mourinho was not a happy man after watching Sevilla prevail 4-1 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in Budapest.
Roma had taken the lead in the first half at the Puskas Arena thanks to a fine finish from Paulo Dybala.
But a Gianluca Mancini own goal drew Sevilla level.
Mancini and Roger Ibanez then both missed penalties in the shootout to seal Mourinho's first ever loss in a European final.
Shortly after being presented with his prize for second place, Mourinho removed the medal from around his neck and threw it into the crowd.
This was not the first time that Mourinho had thrown a medal into the stands.
He famously did so in 2006 after winning the Premier League with Chelsea.
However, it later emerged that the medal Mourinho had thrown away was not his own on that occasion, rather a spare that should have been given to defender Robert Huth.
Mourinho was apparently unhappy with Huth, who had failed to show up for Chelsea's final home game of the season because he was trying to force a transfer away from the club.
