Toronto Argonauts Extend RB/Special Teams Ace

The departures of Andrew Harris and A.J. Ouellette from the Toronto Argonauts backfield have opened the door for the homegrown Daniel Adeboboye to break out in 2024.

The Toronto Argonauts announced today they've extended Canadian RB Daniel Adeboboye through the 2025 season. He will receive a pay raise from his rookie contract that will see him average $112k per season.

Born to parents Marian and Tai Adeboboye, the Mississauga, Ontario native and Bryant University standout has become one of the most valuable role players on the Argos since being selected in the second round of the 2022 CFL Draft.

And with some massive changes coming to the Boatmen's backfield with A.J. Ouelette and Andrew Harris gone, the 24-year-old's role will likely increase in 2024 and beyond.

Adeboboye played 17 games in 2023, rushing 41 times for 287 yards and one touchdown while adding eight receptions for 71 yards. The bruising 5-11, 215-pound running back also contributed 13 special teams tackles last season. Adeboboye tallied 17 special teams tackles in his rookie season, a performance that earned him a team nomination as the CFL's Most Outstanding Special Teams player.

The first two days of CFL free agency have seen Toronto strengthen their special teams coverage units, signing players such as Winnipeg Blue Bombers ace Kerfalla Exumé.

The extension for Adeboboye beyond the 2024 season certainly fortifies Mickey Donovan's special teams unit, but this signing has the feel of something more.

The Argonauts have been linked to free-agent star running back Ka'Deem Carey, who has a history with head coach Ryan Dinwiddie in Calgary. But regardless of who else is added, it feels like Adeboboye is ready to break out on offense.
