"So Important": Phil Foden Delighted By Man City's "Massive" FIFA Club World Cup Triumph

Phil Foden declared himself "delighted" after helping Manchester City become world champions on Friday.

City beat Brazilian side Fluminense 4-0 in Saudi Arabia in the final of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.

Foden scored City's third goal, having earlier fired in a cross that resulted in a Nino own goal.

Julian Alvarez netted City's other two goals in front of 52,601 fans at King Abdullah Sports City.

"It was an unbelievable match," Foden told FIFA.com, before praising Fluminense.

"Fair play to them, I love the way they play with short passes, they didn't make it easy for us.

"But the lads showed not only quality, we showed heart and determination. We're not used to the heat. I'm delighted with the outcome.

"This is so important for the club. I'm delighted. It is massive for the club."

City are the fourth English team to be officially crowned as world club champions by FIFA - after Manchester United (2008), Liverpool (2019) and Chelsea (2021).

United, Liverpool, Chelsea and now City all won the Club World Cup when it was a seven-team mini-tournament.

But from 2025, the competition will expand from seven teams to 32 and take place every four years, instead of annually.

City have already qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup, as have the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Monterrey, Seattle Sounders, Al Ahly, Al-Hilal and Auckland City.
