Roughriders Roster Moves Include Shawn Bane Jr. Extension

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed linebacker Zakoby McClain and re-signed three players, including star wide receiver Shawn Bane Jr.

Four players have secured contracts with the Saskatchewan Roughriders this week.

Linebacker Zakoby McClain signed with the team while three others received extensions. Those players include star wide receiver Shawn Bane Jr., defensive back Rolan Milligan and defensive lineman Anthony Lanier II.

Bane was a difference-maker in his first year with the Roughriders, catching 93 passes for 1,104 yards and four touchdowns. He finished seventh in the CFL in receiving yards after spending the previous two seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. Bane had 24 receptions for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games with Calgary.

Lanier played in 14 games with Saskatchewan last year, totaling 19 tackles, five sacks, two tackles for loss, one pass deflection and one fumble recovery. In his 2022 rookie season, he registered eight sacks along with 19 tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He previously played in the NFL for five seasons with four different teams.

Milligan's extension keeps him in Saskatchewan through the 2025 season. A foot injury kept him out of 14 games last year, resulting in a season total of only 20 total tackles, two interceptions, two pass deflections and two tackles for loss. He joined the team late in 2021 and registered 82 total tackles in the 2022 season.

McClain is playing in the CFL for the first time after signing with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022 as an undrafted free agent. During his time at Auburn, he was named to the Second-Team All-SEC team after tying as the leading tackler in college football with 113 total in 2021.

The Roughriders have 16 players remaining who are going to be free agents come February 13.
