BC Lions Roster Updates: Two Players Re-Signed, WR Dominique Rhymes Released, Former Draft Pick Signed

The BC Lions were active on Wednesday, making multiple roster moves.

The Lions are building the roster they want, and they're doing it quickly. BC announced Wednesday that it made multiple roster moves ahead of free agency.

First were the contract extensions of punter Stefan Flintoft and wide receiver Alexander Hollins, who will now be on the team through the 2025 season. BC also announced the release of former CFL All-Star wide receiver Dominique Rhymes and the signing of former 2021 CFL Draft pick Daniel Joseph.

Flintoft has been on the Lions for three seasons and finished fifth in the CFL last season in average yards per punt (46.7) and average kickoff yards (61.9). He joined the team in 2021 in training camp and took over as the starter in Week 3, holding the job ever since and leading the CFL in average yards per punt with 48.3. He was third in the CFL in 2022 in average yards per punt (47.5).

Hollins is back after his best CFL season last year, catching 78 passes for 1,173 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the team. His performance landed him on the CFL West All-Star team for 2023. He first joined the Lions in training camp in 2022, earning a roster spot and working his way up the depth chart.

Rhymes was released after playing in only 10 games last season for the team due to a knee injury. He finished the 2023 season with 35 receptions for 535 yards and six touchdowns. Rhymes played his first three seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks before joining BC in 2020. Rhymes was named a CFL All-Star in 2022 after catching 85 passes for 1,401 yards and 11 touchdowns in 18 games.

Joseph’s most recent stop was in the XFL last year with the Seattle Sea Dragons, where he put up eight tackles and two sacks in seven games. He had a stint with the Buffalo Bills in 2022, playing in three preseason games with the team. The Lions selected Joseph fourth overall in the 2021 CFL Draft.

BC still has 13 players that are pending free agents whom they can either re-sign or let walk before the February 13 CFL free agency starts.
