Access Denied! Roughriders Deny Stampeders Interview Request With Assistant Coach

The Calgary Stampeders denied the Saskatchewan Roughriders an interview with assistant coach Mark Kilam.

New Saskatchewan Roughriders coach Corey Mace is still in the process of assembling his coaching staff. Mace, of course, is interested in some of his colleagues with the Calgary Stampeders, his previous team. While he was able to hire away one coach, the Stamps put the stops on another, according to reports.

Sources told 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk that the Riders’ request to interview Calgary special teams coordinator and assistant head coach Mark Kilam was denied.

Mace and Kilam have a previous relationship as the two worked together on the Stampeders coaching staff from 2016 through 2021. Their relationship goes back as far as 2010 when Mace was a player on the Stamps, and Kilam was the special teams coordinator.

Kilam has spent his entire coaching career with Calgary, first as their strength and conditioning coach in 2005. His other titles have included defensive assistant, linebackers coach, special teams coordinator, and assistant head coach. He has won three Grey Cup titles with the Stamps as an assistant coach.

Many believe Kilam will be a future CFL head coach. He was interviewed for the Saskatchewan head coaching job.

So far, Mace has added two coaches to his. Mace will act as the team's defensive coordinator. Mace hired former Stamps quarterback coach Marc Mueller as his offensive coordinator in December.
