Chelsea Held By Liverpool On Bruno Saltor's Managerial Debut After Two Goals Disallowed At Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

Bruno Saltor's first game as interim Chelsea manager ended in a 0-0 draw against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

The former Brighton defender had been given little more than 24 hours to prepare his team after being confirmed as Graham Potter's short-term replacement late on Sunday evening.

But Chelsea gave a decent account of themselves against Liverpool and would have won had it not been for some poor finishing.

Chelsea also had two goals disallowed.

Tuesday's result saw Chelsea remain 11th in the Premier League table, while Liverpool dropped to eighth.

Bruno's first XI as Chelsea interim manager showed two changes from the team that had started Graham Potter's final game in charge.

N'Golo Kante started a match for the first time since August, while Wesley Fofana also returned as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mykhailo Mudryk dropped out.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made six changes following Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Manchester City.

Virgil van Dijk missed out through illness, while Mo Salah, Trent-Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Cody Gakpo were all benched.

Klopp's much-changed team started sluggishly at Stamford Bridge and were lucky not to fall behind as Chelsea dominated the early exchanges.

Reece James had the ball in the net in the 25th minute but it was ruled out for an offside call against Enzo Fernandez in the build-up.

Mateo Kovacic then wasted a golden chance to score three minutes into the second half when he blazed a shot over the bar when one-on-one with Alisson.

Chelsea had another goal disallowed moments later.

Kante split the Liverpool defense wide open with a through pass to Kai Havertz. The German failed to beat Alisson with his initial shot but the ball then rebounded back off him and landed in the net.

Wild celebrations at Stamford Bridge were extinguished when a VAR check found that Havertz had scored with his elbow.
