Calgary Stampeders Solidify Defense, Sign Four Players

The Calgary Stampeders re-signed two defensive linemen and added a linebacker and defensive back in the past week.

The Calgary Stampeders solidified its defense with four recent additions.

The Stampeders re-signed defensive linemen Elliot Graham and Julian Howsare and signed linebacker Adam Konar and defensive back Bentlee Sanders.

Howsare started all 18 games in 2023, his first season with the Stampeders. He had 49 total tackles, six sacks, three tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. He spent the previous four seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, registering 160 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 27 sacks, three forced fumbles, three pass deflections, two interceptions, and six special teams tackles.

Graham has played in 25 games over the past three seasons after the Stampeders selected him in the 2021 draft. He has nine special teams tackles, three defensive tackles, and one forced fumble.

Sanders joined the team after he was selected by the D.C. Defenders of the XFL in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft last summer. He attended South Florida and Nevada, finding success with the Wolf Pack his senior season, earning first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in 2022 after recording 82 tackles, five tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, four pass deflections, five interceptions, and one touchdown with Nevada.

Konar played eight seasons with the BC Lions and recently with the Edmonton Elks. He had a career-high 73 tackles in 18 games in 2023. His career stats include 221 tackles, three tackles for loss, 37 special teams tackles, five sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 10 pass deflections in 101 games.

Calgary has signed seven of their 37 pending free agents who hit the open market on Feb. 13.
