Cody Fajardo Wants Montreal Alouettes to be 'Last Stop'

Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo said after the team’s celebration parade that he wants to finish his career with Montreal.

Montreal Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo is looking forward to running it back as the defending Grey Cup champions. He also wants to ride out his career in Montreal.

Fajardo and the rest of the Alouettes celebrated their Grey Cup victory in Montreal on Wednesday with a parade through the city. This comes on the heels of upsetting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24 to win their first Grey Cup since 2010.

Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo wants Montreal to be the "last stop" of his career.

The Grey Cup MVP told the Montreal Gazette that the Als wanted to build something big in Montreal for the fans.

“We don’t want to be a one-hit wonder,” Fajardo said. “We want to be that dynasty that starts to grow. If you look at our roster, we have a lot of first- and second-year players. I’m extremely excited to be able to say I’m coming back, here with a lot of guys that have put their heart and soul into this.”

The plan is for Fajardo to return as their starting quarterback to defend the Grey Cup title. He talked about his future with the franchise in his exit interview with Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia.

“We had a great conversation. The biggest point I made to him was that this is my last ride, ” Fajardo said. “This is my last stop. For how long you want to ride me out, Montreal’s going to be my last stop. To be a part of a Grey Cup-winning team, I want to be able to finish my career here, hold my head up high. I’m done doing the journeyman thing. This is it for me and my family.”

Fajardo finished fifth in the CFL in passing yards with 3,847 yards with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The 31-year-old QB has played for four different CFL teams in his career. He is entering the second year of his two-year contract with Montreal.
