Edmonton Elks Make QB Taylor Cornelius Release Official, Cut LB Adam Konar

The Edmonton Elks officially announced quarterback Taylor Cornelius being released, while also letting go of linebacker Adam Konar.

CFL fans already knew the news was coming, but the Edmonton Elks made it official that Taylor Cornelius no longer being on the team. Edmonton announced the quarterback’s release, while also releasing linebacker Adam Konar.

Cornelius has been with the organization since 2021. He finished his three-year run in Edmonton throwing for 5,868 yards and 25 touchdowns in 44 games, starting 27. The Elks owe Cornelius $100,000 guaranteed for the 2024 season.

Before the CFL, he was the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL in 2020. In five games, Cornelius threw for 858 yards and four touchdowns before the league canceled its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Oklahoma State, Cornelius started for one season in 2018 and threw for 3,978 yards with 32 touchdowns to 13 interceptions in 13 games. He added 406 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Konar is a veteran in the CFL having played in Edmonton from 2015-18 and 2022-23. In those six seasons, he recorded 209 tackles, four sacks, four forced fumbles and four interceptions in 70 games. He also played two seasons for the BC Lions in 2019 and 2021, recording 12 tackles and one sack. The Elks selected Konar in the third round of the 2015 CFL Draft after playing his college football at the University of Calgary.

The Elks made a big move on Monday by signing quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to a one-year agreement worth up to $500,000 with incentives.
