Winnipeg Blue Bombers Defensive End Retires

Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat will be retiring from the CFL after six seasons.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be taking a hit on the defensive line as one of their top pass rushers is retiring from the CFL. Defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat’s agent told 3DownNation on Friday of those intentions.

Jeffcoat played in 14 games in 2023 making 21 tackles and eight sacks which is the second most of his career. His most sacks came in 2021 with nine while also producing 26 tackles which helped him earn his only CFL All-Star selection.

He finishes his career with 150 total tackles, 38 sacks, 13 forced fumbles and two interceptions in 78 contests all with Winnipeg. Jeffcoat won two Grey Cups in his playing career in 2019 and 2021.

Before the CFL, he played in the NFL from 2014-16 with three different teams. In nine games with Washington, he put up nine tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception. He also played for the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns.

Despite dealing with injuries in his career, Jeffcoat continued to prove year after year he was one of the top defensive ends in the league. Winnipeg will be feeling the loss of the 33-year-old defensive lineman as the team looks for his replacement.

The Bombers made several moves throughout the week including bringing back running back Brady Oliveira and wide receiver Dalton Schoen. They will have to regroup and search for Jeffcoat’s replacement in free agency or the draft.
