Spain Beat France to Win Inaugural UEFA Women's Nations League

Spain beat France 2-0 in Seville on Wednesday to win the first ever edition of the UEFA Women's Nations League.

Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati fired Spain in front in the 32nd minute before Mariona Caldentey found the net early in the second half.

France were thoroughly outplayed and failed to register a single shot on target.

Spain - who won the FIFA Women's World Cup last year - had never previously beaten France in a senior women's international.

Wednesday's final, which was played in front of 32,657 fans, took place five days after Spain had beaten the Netherlands 3-0 in the semis.

Bonmati, who also scored against the Netherlands, was voted as the MVP of the Finals tournament.

Later on Wednesday, Germany beat the Netherlands 2-0 in the third place play-off.

Klara Buhl and Lea Schuller got the goals for Germany.

That win saw Germany join Spain and France in qualifying for this summer's women's soccer event at the 2024 Olympic Games.
