Brazil Knocked Out Of Women's World Cup By Jamaica After Inspired Performance From Tottenham Goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer

Jamaica produced one of the biggest shocks of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup on Wednesday by knocking out Brazil.

Brazil needed to beat Jamaica in their final game in Group F but a 0-0 draw in Melbourne saw the South American side finish third with four points.

The Reggae Girlz came second with five points, while France topped the group on seven points following a 6-3 victory over Panama elsewhere on Wednesday.

Jamaica had only previously featured at one Women's World Cup - when they lost all three group games in France four years ago.

But the Caribbean outfit, ranked 43rd in the world by FIFA, are unbeaten and have yet to concede a goal in three matches during the current tournament.

Having kicked off with a 0-0 draw against France, Jamaica recorded their first ever Women's World Cup win by beating Panama 1-0 last week.

Wednesday's clash with Brazil was one-way traffic for much of the game. Brazil had 73 percent of possession and registered 18 shots to Jamaica's three.

But a star-studded attack featuring the likes of Debinha, Adriana, Ary Borges and six-time FIFA World Player of the Year Marta were unable to find a way past Jamaica keeper Rebecca Spencer, who made eight saves.

Spencer, 32, previously represented England at U20 level and she currently plays her club soccer for Tottenham Hotspur.

Jamaica will now face the winners of Group H in the round of 16 in Melbourne next Tuesday.
