Alex Baena To Press Charges Against Federico Valverde Over Alleged Assault In Real Madrid Parking Lot

Villarreal winger Alex Baena has decided to press charges against Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

Baena has alleged that Valverde punched him in the face in the parking lot of the Bernabeu stadium after Villarreal won 3-2 at Real on Saturday.

It is believed that Villarreal have video evidence of the alleged attack by Valverde.

Villarreal confirmed in a statement on Sunday evening that the police will now be involved.

Baena had earlier suggested that he wanted to move on from the incident without pressing charges, but the 21-year-old later changed his mind.

The club statement on Sunday read: "Villarreal CF player Alex Baena was assaulted last night on his way to the team bus after the match against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

"Once again, Villarreal CF rejects any act of violence and firmly believes in the version of its player and will support him throughout this process".

Baena also issued a statement on Sunday to deny allegations that he had taunted Valverde about his unborn child during a Copa del Rey match in January.

Valverde's wife was said to be having complications with her pregnancy at this time.

Baena was accused of telling Valverde: "Cry now that your son is not going to be born".

But Baena insists this is not true.

He wrote on Instagram: "Very happy with the team's impressive victory in a place like the Santiago Bernabeu, but at the same time very sad about the aggression I suffered after the match and surprised by what is being said about me. IT IS TOTALLY UNTRUE THAT I SAID THAT."

Although Valverde could face a punishment from the Spanish criminal system, he will escape a ban from La Liga for now.

That is because Valverde's alleged attack on Baena was not reported by Villarreal to the Spanish Football Federation, nor was it included in the referee's match report.
