Lionel Messi Contract Talks In Progress, Claims PSG Director Luis Campos

Contract talks between Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain have begun and are ongoing, according to the club's sporting director.

Messi joined PSG from Barcelona in August 2021.

The contract signed by Messi upon his arrival in Paris currently ties him to PSG until June 2023.

If Messi does not sign a new deal before June then he will become a free agent.

Barcelona have long been rumored to hold a firm interest in re-signing Messi, while a move to the Saudi Pro League to join Cristiano Ronaldo is also seen as a possible option.

But PSG are keen to keep Messi by extending his contract at the Parc des Princes.

PSG want Lionel Messi to sign a new contract in Paris

PSG sporting director Luis Campos told Telefoot this week: "At the moment, we are in discussions with Messi for his extension.

"I would like to keep him in this project, I can't hide it. We are talking at the moment to achieve this goal, and continue to have him with us."

Messi scored his 10th Ligue 1 goal of the season on Saturday to help PSG beat Toulouse 2-1.

The 35-year-old Argentina captain has also provided 10 assists in Ligue 1 this season, despite only playing in 18 matches so far.
