Toronto Argonauts Begin Search for Defensive Coordinator

With Argonauts defensive coordinator Corey Mace taking the Saskatchewan Roughriders coaching job, Toronto begins the search for his replacement.

The Toronto Argonauts have learned the fate of their former defensive coordinator Corey Mace, who took the job as the next coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Argos coach Ryan Dinwiddie must now conduct his search for a new defensive coordinator.

Some early candidates have already been mentioned. Arash Madani reported that current Roughriders defensive coordinator Jason Shivers is on the list.

Shivers has more than 10 ears of coaching experience in the CFL. His coaching career started with Toronto in 2013 as a defensive assistant. In 2014, he went to Edmonton to be their defensive backs coach.

Since 2015, he has coached in Saskatchewan starting as the defensive backs coach until 2019. He took over as defensive coordinator in 2019 and has held the position ever since.

One other name that Madani brought up that might be a sleeper pick for the job is former Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive coordinator and longtime NFL coach Jerry Glanville.

For Glanville, his only season in the CFL was in 2018 with the Tiger-Cats where they made a run to the East Final before losing to the Ottawa Redblacks. He was a long-time head coach in the NFL in the 1980s and '90s for the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons.

His most recent stops were being the head coach for the Conquerors of The Spring League and the Alabama Airborne of the short-lived Major League Football.

Toronto is coming off a 16-2 season where it lost in the East Final to the Grey Cup champions Montreal Alouettes.
