DB Damon Webb Set to Return to Ottawa Redblacks Through 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks brought back one of their top defensive backs on a one-year deal on Monday.

The secondary in Ottawa is staying intact. Damon Webb and the Redblacks have reached an agreement on a one-year deal that will keep him with the team through the 2024 season.

Webb finished his third season in the CFL and his first with Ottawa with 16 appearances last year, compiling a career-high 64 tackles, three interceptions and one sack. His first two seasons in the CFL were played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, where he racked up 69 total tackles and two interceptions in 21 games.

His professional career began in 2018 when he signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent. After playing in four preseason games, posting five tackles and two pass deflections, he was cut and subsequently added to their practice squad, where he remained until he was released from the team in the summer of 2019.

The Redblacks have a lot of work to do in the secondary with six players still set to hit free agency. Including Webb, three defensive backs have been extended. Ty Cranston and Brandin Dandridge inked new deals with the club earlier in the offseason.

Webb was ranked as the third-best defensive back who was a pending free agent on Sports Illustrated’s list in December.
